How do you start on a kneeboard?
The handle locks into the board’s front hook: you start lying down or kneeling without holding the rope at arm’s length, then unhook the handle once you are moving. The strap tightens over your thighs to hold the board through turns and jumps. The Wild Thing even lets you ride hands-free with the hook engaged: ideal for a first try.
What equipment?
A wakeboard rope or a universal rope: the Classic wake and kneeboard rope (55 ft) suits children and beginners. Kneeboarding is done at a moderate speed, slower than water skiing.
In France, the person being towed wears a vest or buoyancy aid of at least 50 N, and the driver has a second person on board to watch them. Riding takes place in the zones and channels set aside for it; on a lake, a prefectural order sets the zones and times. See our lifejackets and buoyancy aids.
