Why start on combo skis
Two skis give twice the surface area: the skier comes out of the water at a moderate speed and keeps their balance without effort. Adjustable slide bindings fit the whole family. The stabiliser bar, supplied with the Quantum, the Super Sport and the Cadet, joins the tips so they don’t drift apart: take it off as soon as the skier is comfortable. Spare parts: bar for combo skis and bar for the Cadet.
Trainer skis for children
The Cadet and the Firecracker come with their own rope and a safety handle at the boat end. The Firecracker, in bamboo and U-shaped, is the most stable; its foot straps with non-slip pad suit the smallest children. A child can start as soon as they swim confidently and accept wearing the vest, often around 5 or 6, at a very low speed.
And after combo skis?
The Eclypse has one ski fitted with a Swerve binding and a rear toe plate: you drop the other ski to make your first turns on a slalom ski. The next step is a wide, forgiving slalom ski such as the Outlaw or the Big Easy.
In France, the person being towed wears a vest or buoyancy aid of at least 50 N, and the driver has a second person on board to watch them. Skiing takes place in the zones and channels set aside for it; on a lake, a prefectural order sets the zones and times. See our lifejackets and buoyancy aids.
Connelly technologies
Tunnel shape

Standard tunnel
A concave channel along the whole length, which sets the ski down in the water and gives it grip. It leaves a flatter area between the tunnel and the edge bevel: the ski gains stability without losing grip.

Wide tunnel
It leaves only a very narrow flat strip before the bevel: the ski wants to get on edge by itself. For advanced skiers and buoy chasers in full control of their ski.

Double tunnel
A tunnel within the tunnel: the ski sits deeper in the water and bites harder when it is on edge.
Under the ski

V-Tech
Six V-shaped steps break up the flow of water under the ski, from the front binding to the fin. Less water clings to the ski as it accelerates: it turns more easily and drags less.

Speed V-Tech
V-Tech adapted for fast skis: the curved V steps slow the water in the middle of the tunnel more than along the edges. Drag drops without losing edge grip.

Connelly Tracking System (C.T.S.)
A slight rib under the tip keeps the ski running straight while the boat pulls you out of the water on a deep-water start.

Frequently asked questions
What length of combo skis should I choose?
It depends on weight: Super Sport 55″ up to 61 kg, Voyage 64″ up to 68 kg or 68″ from 54 kg, Quantum 69″ from 61 to 109 kg, Eclypse 67″ up to 125 kg, Big Easy 67″ up to 136 kg.
At what age can a child start water skiing?
As soon as they swim confidently and accept wearing the vest, often around 5 or 6. The Cadet (up to 36 kg) and Firecracker (up to 39 kg) skis are made for first tries, at a very low speed.
What is the stabiliser bar for?
It joins the tips of the two skis so they stay parallel on the start and during the first runs. Take it off once the skier can hold the skis together on their own.
Combo skis or a slalom ski to start?
Combo skis. A slalom ski requires you to already be able to get up and keep your balance; you move on to it after a few successful sessions, for example with the Eclypse, which lets you drop one ski.
